As a young adult she lived in Delray Beach, Florida where in 1961 she met a man named Samuel T. Barnes of Tallahassee, FL. They fell in love and were married on December 9, 1962. They began their family there and remained in the Delray Beach area for some time.
Nathalee worked in the data entry field for Southern Bell Telephone until she retired. After her retirement, she and Samuel relocated “back home” to Havana, Florida in 2008, residing there for the rest of their lives.
Nathalee was a member of the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Havana where she served as the chairperson for the Deaconess and the Mother’s Board. She also loved to sing, play scrabble and gardening.
She leaves to cherish fond memories; her son, Nathaniel (Marilyn) Barnes, and daughters, Grace (James) McGee and Sharon Barnes. One brother, Willie James Jackson of Tallahassee, FL and one sister, Daisy Mae Jackson of St. Petersburg, FL. One Sister-in-law, Jeans Barnes of Tallahassee, FL. Nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Issac Lockett, Sr and Mary Jackson, her loving husband, Deacon Samuel T. Barnes, her daughter, Cynthia Barnes Bailey, granddaughter Cassandra Hope Keitt and siblings: James Lockett, Issac Lockett Jr., John Lockett, Gertrude Lockett Geathers, Rev. Arthur H. Lockett Sr., Lucille Lockett Betha Smith, Dorothy Lockett Mandley, Hattie Mae Jackson, Lizzie Jackson, Hezikiah Jackson, Robert Jackson and William Jackson.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Greater St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church, 5820 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32303. The Elder Dr. Chris A. Burney will preside over the service. Interment will take place at Tallahassee National Cemetery at a later date.
