Maureen (Jinx) Ann Peters, 80, passed at her home she designed and dearly loved. She was born March 2, 1943, and died September 10th, 2023. Maureen was the first born to Martha O'Berto Van Schoyck and Wayne Van Schoyck. She was nicknamed Jinx as a baby and held that name until death.
Jinx grew up in Wisconsin Dells, WI. where she met her future husband, Alan Peters. After marriage they moved to Waunakee, WI where they raised their two daughters before moving to Tallahassee, FL. in 1976. While living in Wisconsin the family would spend the summers camping, riding bikes and sailing. She and her best friend, Elaine Anderson, did everything together including introducing the girl scouts to their small town of Waunakee.
After moving to Tallahassee, she continued her career in the restaurant business. She excelled at her job because of her organizational skills and friendly nature. She is well remembered from the Brown Derby, where she was a friend to all and a "mother" to many.
The lady loved to party! She was an exceptional hostess having countless gatherings at her home, from sit-down dinners to pool parties. She made every holiday special for her family and friends.
Jinx and Alan shared a love for theater, from Broadway to Young actors and of course FSU. They also shared a love for camping and stayed at many state parks. One of her biggest loves was her granddaughter, Alyssa, who she helped raise into the confident, caring lady she is today. Alyssa recently had a son that Jinx got to meet and spend some quality time with before she passed. We now have an angel in heaven to watch over us.
Jinx was a beauty with a great sense of humor. She gave and cared for everyone who came into her life, especially the children. Her neighbors referred to her as the "mayor" of the neighborhood. If you went out of town, she had dinner waiting for you when you got home.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Alan, her feisty mother, Martha, and her sweet sister-in-law, Molly. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Marshall and Kristine Peters (Joe Steverson). Her granddaughter, Alyssa Marshall (Kyle Washburn) and great-grandson, Kade Washburn. She is also survived by her brothers, Dennis Van Schoyck, Curt Van Schoyck (Diana), and Chip Van Schoyck. As well as many nieces and nephews and hundreds of friends.
A Celebration of Maureen's life will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 2:00 until 5:00 PM at Bradley's Pond, 9002 Bradley Road, Tallahassee, FL 32309.
