Mary Adeline Wilkes, 72, of Tallahassee, Florida died on February 14th 2025. She was born in Adel, Ga in 1952 to Judson and Adeline Wilkes. She loved tending and riding her family’s horses, especially her Tennessee walking horse “Red.” She never outgrew her love of horses.
Mary attended Central High School in Thomasville, GA. before studying Psychology at the University of Georgia and getting her Masters in Social Work at Florida State University.
Mary had a successful career in Social Work that included working at the Apalachee Employee Assistance Program, having a private practice and helping to start the Employee Assistance Program at Florida State University. She was the Director of the Employee Assistance Program at Florida State University when she retired in 2017.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Judson Stanley Wilkes, her mother, Adeline Wood Wilkes, her sister, Rebecca Ruth Wilkes, and her nephew, Jud Wilkes. She is survived by her siblings, Stanley Wilkes (Jane), Wendy Rodriguez (Wayne) and Kevin Wilkes (Teri) and her daughters, Rebecca Babcock (Mike) and Emily Swinney (Russel) and grandchildren, Porter, Erin, Maesun, Sofia, Aedan and Adeline.
A memorial service will be held in Mary’s honor on March 21st at 3pm at Four Oaks Community Church (Killearn Campus) 4500 W Shannon Lakes #12, Tallahassee, FL 32309.
Flowers can be delivered on March 20th between 9-4 to Four Oaks Community (Killearn Campus)
Memorial Contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, who cared for Mary so well in her final months.
