Born on October 1, 1949 in Dayton, OH, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Clarice (Kriebel) Garver. Clarice owned a dance studio in Fairborn, OH where Marilyn learned tap, ballet and toe dancing. She went on to teach dance to younger girls during her high school years. In 1967 she was graduated from Patterson Co-Op High School in Dayton, OH with an emphasis on medical arts. After high school, she began her Federal Civil Service career in the computer field at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and later transferred to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ to be closer to her parents. On December 31, 1986, she married Charles Henry Wood III in Montgomery, AL. After 23 years of dedicated service, she retired from Civil Service due to a disability caused by scleroderma. Her hobbies included sewing and crocheting. She adored cats and was always very interested in older cars. The ’57 Chevy was one of her favorites.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; five step children, Wayne and Steven Berry, Christine Upton, Maureen Wright and Kathy DeMalteris; her brother Ron Garver and sister Cheryl Hoffman.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Marilyn’s name to The National Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923, or online at www.Scleroderma.org.
