Margaret was born on August 8, 1933, in Erie, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Mary Katherine Luciano Vanchieri.
She was the second of four children growing up in a big Italian family where everybody lived near everybody---cousins, aunts, and uncles. Margaret often joked that even the neighbors were like family. Everyone shared what they had with the others. She and her siblings were always extremely close and remained so until the death of her beloved younger sister and brother, Geraldine Vanchieri Cacchione who died in 2012, and Vincent Vanchieri who died in 2006. Her older sister and best friend, Ann Vanchieri Starocci of Erie, Pennsylvania survives.
Margaret was a 1951 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and can be remembered as a beautiful soprano singer in her acapella choir at school and in the choir at St. Pauls Roman Catholic Church. She married young and after 14 years of marriage found herself a single mom to four children. These were not easy times, but her faith helped her through them. Margaret went to church almost every morning before work to make sure God was on her side and with her throughout her day. She was a hard worker all her life, mainly in the banking industry in various administrative roles at Security Peoples Trust in Erie, Great Western Bank, and EDS in Orlando, Florida, and eventually working part-time after retirement for the Orange County School District and the YMCA in their after-school program. She often said that those were the best years of her life working with children of all ages from 6-month-old babies to middle schoolers.
In 1973, she married her second husband, Joseph S. Diesner, and loved and cared for him for 37 years until his death in 2010 in Orlando. After Joseph passed, Margaret moved to Tallahassee to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She fell in love with Tallahassee and all the treasured friends she met as a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She often said that the friends she made were “lifetime” friends and she could not believe her extraordinary fortune in meeting them, at this time of her life, and the wonderful bond they shared. Margaret had many favorite things in life, the very least being shopping. If there was a sale to be had, you could always find her and her best friend Kitty at the mall or stores bright and early for an entire day of laughter and silliness. She enjoyed scouring the estate sales with Claire, Kitty, and Harold, dancing at the Tallahassee Senior Center, Domino Sundays with her besties, and of course, the girls from the Birthday Club! She was honored to be a part of several clubs and ministries within Good Shepherd Catholic Church such as Friendship Circle, Young at Heart, and the one that touched her heart the most, Bereavement Ministry.
Margaret will most be remembered, by everyone who knew her best, as someone who enjoyed every single day devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and especially, her faith.
Her legacy is her four children—Carla De Baldo (Dan) of Tallahassee, FL., Christopher (Vicky) Stork of Orlando, FL., Matthew (Carol) Stork of Mulberry, FL., Richard (Janine) Stork of Havana, FL. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews she loved so much.
Friends may attend a Funeral Mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, February 11th at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow at the reception hall at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. All family and friends are invited to attend in celebration of Margaret’s life.
Interment will occur at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Erie, Pennsylvania at a future date to be announced.
