Jane Marchman Patterson, lovingly known to her family as “Maw Maw” passed away in her home on Thursday, April 6, 2023. A celebration of her wonderful life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 16th at the Chapel of East Hill Baptist Church in Tallahassee.
“Maw Maw” was born to the late Lillian and Herman Marchman on May 19, 1928, in Mountville, Georgia. She grew up in Lagrange, Georgia, where she met and married the late, Albert L. Patterson. Jane and “Pat” moved from their hometown of Lagrange to Athens, Georgia, where “Pat” played football for the University of Georgia. Following his football career, they moved to Deland, Florida, before moving to their future home, first in Forest Park, Georgia, then eventually building a home and settling in Ellenwood, Georgia. Jane was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Forest Park. She was a steadfast and faithful believer in Christ, and she lived her life by HIS scripture. “Maw Maw” was patient, kind and never raised her voice. She was the glue that held her family together. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Tallahassee to be close to her family, where she became a member of East Hill Baptist Church.
Jane was a seventh-grade teacher and adored her students. She was an amazing cook and was infamous for her Tollhouse Chocolate Chip cookies, which she would make during thunderstorms, or whenever her grandchildren would come to visit. She was a loving caretaker and friend to all. To know Jane, was to love her. “Maw Maw’s” family has always been the center of her world. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Jane Richardson; her two grandchildren, Matt Richardson (Danielle) and Katie Richardson; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Jane Tofano, River Danny Richardson and Finn Bryson Richardson; and a niece, Susan Rogers. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Irene “Rene” (Ben) Updegrove, niece Laura Updegrove, and son-in-law, Danny Gerald Richardson. “Maw Maw” will be truly missed by all who knew her.
1 Corinthians 13 “If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.
