Dorothy Jean Barksdale Griffin was born September 16, 1938 in Meigs, Georgia. She was the daughter of Eugene Barksdale and Ruby Ward Barksdale. Dorothy was the third youngest of ten children. In 1955, she graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida.
Dwight Huel Griffin and Dorothy were married in 1957, and had two children, Kimberly Denise Griffin (1959) and Scott Huel Griffin (1964).
Dorothy, an accountant, was CFO of some of the most prestigious companies in Tallahassee. Her reputation was such that if you wanted your company “out of the red and into the black,” you hired Dorothy Griffin. Having a handpicked staff of the “smartest young women on earth” was something she was most proud of. She was very serious about other people’s money and lived by her words, “Ethical was something you are, not something you talk about”.
She had a generous nature, and loved fishing and camping. She made happy memories for many, and will be remembered for wonderful road trips with invited family members. People were drawn to her wise approach and straight forward opinions.
In life, Dorothy loved her two children most of all. After her son Scott died in 2002, his vibrant life and the love she had for him left an irreparable hole in her heart. She leaves behind daughter Kimberly Griffin White (husband Mark D. White) of Panama City, her sister Gail Jaworski of Panama City Beach, granddaughter Victoria Griffin Adler (husband Clint Adler) of Dallas, Georgia, four great-grandchildren Ezekiel, Elyana, Evalyn, and Vivyenne, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Per her request, there will be no funeral or Celebration of Life.
Kim would like to thank her Aunt Gail for the love, the support and the dedication she gave her sister Dorothy in the final months.
The family would like to thank the staff at Summers Landing especially Precious, CJ (the orange lady) and Nicole for their kindness, care and love.
We extend our gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their support and professionalism, and to the Neptune Society for the care and easing of the process during this difficult time.
