David Morris Porter, 78, of Tallahassee, Florida passed away on August 9, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born on April 27, 1945, in Jacksonville, Florida. David honorably served in the United States Army from September 1962 to October 1970. He was honest, dependable, kind, and a loyal father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend.
After his military service, David joined the City of Tallahassee Fleet Division, as a mechanic. He was employed with the City from March 1970-March 1993, when he retired. After a couple of years of retirement, he got bored and decided to get a part time job transporting Avis Rental Cars to give him something to do, however, this intended temporary job turned into a 20-year career from 1995-2015. He retired from Avis and spent his time assisting with events at the Tallahassee Moose Lodge where he was a lifetime member. He enrolled in the Moose in November 1988 and was conferred as a Fellow of the order in July 1996 and sponsored 67 members. He held several positions at the Lodge such as Officer, Governor, and Chairman.
David is survived by his daughter Elizabeth P. Miller, son Brandon Porter, grandsons Trever Miller and Tanner Miller, brother Charles E. Porter, sister Dorothy H. Bashant, and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his mother, Tina Porter, brother Ronald E. Porter, and brother-in-law Larry Bashant.
A remembrance service will be held in the near future (date to be determined) at the Tallahassee Moose Lodge.
