Casper “Cas” Cituk, 98, of Tallahassee, Florida passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Red Hills Village Retirement Resort. The son of Polish immigrants Adam and Mary Cituk, Cas was born on January 1, 1924, in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 75 years, Katherine A. Cituk, whom he lovingly nicknamed “Kitty”; daughter Susan Cituk Langston (David); son Jeffrey Cituk (Ann); granddaughters Christy Katherine Doll (Doug), Megan Nicole Langston and Hayley Langston Whipple (Adam); grandson John Jeffrey Cituk; and eight great grandchildren Tyler Roc, McKalee Ray, Gabe Warner, Samuel Wesley and Shephard Michael Doll; Hunter Mason and Ansley Sierra Whipple; and Tripp Harrison Cribb; and nieces Kathy Cituk Wilkerson and Sharon Paschke. He is preceded in death by his parents Adam and Mary Cituk, brother John Cituk, and nephew John S. Cituk.
A veteran of World War II, Cas served as a Firecontrolman 1st, in the Navy for six years, from August, 1942, until he was honorably discharged in August, 1948. He served in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Sumter and U.S.S. Dayton, and earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area with 6 Stars, the Philippine Liberation with 2 Stars and other medals and ribbons.
When he was on leave from the Navy, Cas met Kitty in Washington, DC, and, a year after the war ended, they were married at Christmas time, December 21, 1946, over 75 years ago.
In later years, Cas and Kitty enjoyed traveling, especially to reunions with his shipmates in Branson, Missouri; Nashville, Tennessee and Las Vegas, Nevada. These were special times for all, sharing stories and memories of wartime and their time at sea.
Cas developed a love for computers early in life and spent his career working with computers, including as an engineer with Lockheed Martin and with Control Data as the engineer in charge of some of the first mainframe computers at Florida State University. His love of computers stayed with him all of his life as he was known to have multiple computers and laptops around the house and in his “computer shack”, including a tablet and iPhone that he used up until the time of his passing.
Cas was a devoted family man who loved vacationing with his family. Family vacations included camping, boating and hiking, and visiting almost every state in the nation. Cas loved to water ski, fish, play football, whiffle ball, basketball, badminton and whatever sport was in season with Jeff and Sue and the neighborhood kids. He was most at peace being on or near the water, especially the 40 years he and Kitty lived on a lake in Marion County.
Cas loved listening to music, especially his signature favorite song, Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.
Cas will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank Big Bend Hospice for their care of Cas and the faithful friends who provided love and support to Cas and his family throughout his later years.
Cas will be laid to rest with Military Honors at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Tallahassee National Cemetery.
