Brandon Kyle Slone of Tallahassee, Florida passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the age of 56. Brandon was born on September 23, 1969, in Fort Pierce, Florida where he grew up highly involved in Southside Christian Church and playing baseball for numerous teams and all-star teams. He graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School in May of 1988 with honors and having been a member of the Cobras’ varsity baseball team all four years. He then graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky in May, 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He continued his education and earned a Masters of Arts degree (American Mid nineteenth Century Miliary History) from Eastern Kentucky University in May of 1994. He then went on to earn a United States Army War College Postgraduate certification in Military History in 2005. Finally, he earned a Post Graduate Certification in Military Archives from the United States Command and General Staff College in 2010.
Brandon married Jodee Lorraine Dyer on July 29, 1988. They moved to Richmond, Kentucky for Brandon to attend Eastern Kentucky University in the summer of 1990. Brandon served as a Seasonal Park Ranger, representing a Northern Soldier during the Civil War, at Petersburg National Battlefield Park for 3 summers (1991 – 1993). Brandon and Jodee were the proud parents of Lisa, Arie, and Joshua. They settled in Shelbyville, Kentucky where Brandon was very active as a coach in the various sports in which Lisa, Arie, and Joshua were involved. The family was also very active in Shelby Christian Church, First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, and Capital City Christian Church in Frankfort, KY. Brandon served as the Military Historian for Kentucky for 27 years, working closely with the Kentucky National Guard and the Kentucky Historical Society. Upon retirement in July, 2020, Brandon continued to share his passion for history as a teacher at the Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky from 2020 - 2022 where he also served as Athletic Director, Varsity Girls Softball Head Coach and Varsity Girls Basketball Assistant Coach. Upon moving to Tallahassee, Florida in June of 2022, Brandon enjoyed being close to his children as well as very involved in his grandchildren’s lives, fondly known as “G”.
From baseball as a child to softball as an adult, ball was always important in Brandon’s life. Through softball he shared his love of Christ with others and how he became part of the communities where he and his family lived. He played softball for Southside Christian Church before moving to Kentucky, where he became very active in the softball program at Westside Christian Church; where he and Jodee became members while living in Richmond, Kentucky. He was also instrumental in starting the ladies’ softball team at Westside, something he and Jodee were very proud of. He then coached both men’s and coed softball, with Jodee, for many years at Shelby Christian Church in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Brandon also coached adult coed softball at Capital City Christian Church in Frankfort, Kentucky. In Frankfort, he worked with many young men and families to build a foundation as young adults. Leading them, by example, to become better men, husbands, and fathers.
Tallahassee became home after retirement, which is more than fitting. Brandon was a lifelong Florida State University fan. He was proud to become a local in Tallahassee and a booster of FSU athletics. He enjoyed attending FSU football and basketball games with Jodee, the children and grandchildren to support his beloved Noles and was always known to proudly wear Garnet and Gold.
Brandon was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Howard Slone and his mother Rosemary “Bootsie” Robinson Slone. He is survived by his wife Jodee Lorraine Dyer Slone, his daughter Lisa Fenee Slone Meinsen (Timothy Meinsen), and 2 sons, Arie Fitzhugh Slone (Lee Ann Miller Slone) and Joshua Chamberlain Slone (Morgan Elaine Darby Slone).
