Billie J Blair died peacefully April 25,2018. Billie was born January 2, 1936, the second oldest child to Ed and Etta Belle Sandlin. Billie would spend her childhood, grow up, make many lifelong friends, and go to school in Troy, Al. After graduating from high school she moved to Birmingham, Al. where on a blind date she would meet the love of her life, Eustace S. Blair, Jr. , of Monticello, Fl. Billie and “Blair” as she often called him, had a whirlwind romance and were married in Birmingham on April 1, 1955. Billie and Eustace then moved to Orlando where their first daughter, Debra was born. Donna their second daughter, followed 7 years later, in Tallahassee.
Billie’s grand children, Giles and Sharon, were her heart and joy. Often telling them they “were big ol’ chucks of her heart”. There’s no denying that her “grand babies” as she called them, were the people that she loved the most. Time spent at Mamaw’s was very special for her grand babies.
Billie worked as an executive secretary for the State of Florida for 30 years which is where she retired from.
She lived at 7 Hills Health and Rehab in Tallahassee for the last year and a half. She often was found behind the C wing nurses station as the “secretary”, trying to get them “to work”. Or demanding the door of the dining room to be “closed all the way” during activities, stating “no one can work with all this noise”. The entire facility knew and loved Billie but if anyone could get Billie to do anything it was one of her nurses, Valentine a.k.a “Jimmy”.
Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eustace, her brother, Robert Sandlin and her son-in-law, David H. Ansley. She leaves behind her daughters Debra B. Simmons (Roger) and Donna B. Ansley, 2 grandchildren, Giles and Sharon Ansley, her sisters, Barbara Goebel of Baton Rouge, Carolyn Herron of Bridgeport, WV and Joan Jacks (Bill) of Double Springs, AL.
The family would like to thank the 7 Hills Health and Rehab “C” wing staff, especially “Jimmy” who took great care of her, Linda Johnson, who loved and helped care for her over the last 2 years and Big Bend Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association to aid in finding a cure for this dreadful disease or to the Alabama Baptist Children Home.
Until we meet again, We love you.
Neptune Society is in charge of her arrangements.
