Augustine Ross Leo

Augustine Ross Leo, 91, died at home in Destin, FL, Saturday, April 4, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Milwaukee, WI, to Sara and Rocco Leo. Ross lived his early years in Chicago, IL, before moving to Birmingham, AL. Ross lived there for the next 49 years before moving to Florida.

He was a graduate of West End High School and attended UAB in Birmingham, AL. Ross was proud of his military service and reached the rank of E6 in the Alabama National Guard. He spent six and a half years serving in a transport unit, in a military band as the drum major, and as a gate guard. He loved to tell stories of his time in the military.

Ross was a multi-talented person and an entrepreneur. He worked in various careers, including playing in several musical groups; he opened and operated two music stores in the Birmingham, AL area. He owned a restaurant in north Birmingham and invested in and operated several medical companies in Alabama and Florida. He retired from his durable medical company in 2005.

He loved music and played the sax and clarinet. As an Italian, he enjoyed cooking great pasta sauce and many other dishes. He enjoyed fishing and boating. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, and willingness to help others. He will mainly be remembered for his love of family and friends.

Ross is survived by his wife, Teresa; daughter, Dana Brown (Richard) from TN; son, David Leo from AL; daughter, Tammy Kelley-Odom (Chris) from FL; and sister, Louise Harris from AL. He leaves granddaughter, Dr. Kristin Brown, OR; grandsons Christopher Smoyer (Delilia), LA; Cody Smoyer (Blythe), FL; Mychael Smoyer, FL, granddaughters, Auburn and Karley Odom (FL); grandson, Parker Odom, FL; seven great-grandchildren, Channing, Aniston, Julian, Stella, Everett, and Serena, and nieces, Emily Harris, Lisa Machado, and Charlene Mobley (AL).

Ross will be buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL, next to his parents. Arrangements are being made by Neptune Society (AL) and Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL. A graveside service will be scheduled in May.
