Ronald Henry Fortmann, 80, of Elma, passed away on Feb. 14, 2018. He was born on Feb. 23, 1937 in Worthington, Iowa to Edward and Mary (Weigel) Fortmann. After graduating from Worthington High in 1956 he joined the Air Force, a career that would last 20 years. He later went to school to become a diesel mechanic, his second career spent working for John Deer, Caterpillar, and Louisiana Machinery.
When not working Ronald loved to travel and spend time outdoors. He was very active in his Catholic Faith, a Knight of Columbus, 4th Degree, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Elma Eagles.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen (Anderson) Fortmann; sons, Ronald Jr. (Patricia) Fortmann, of Ringgold, La., Rodney Fortmann of Haughton La., and Randy (Lisa) Fortmann of Princeton La.; Linda (Steven) Nickell of Cabot Ar.; brother, Richard (Marilyn) Fortmann of Worthington Iowa, sister, Darlene (Gene) Hengel of Tampa Fl.,and Cheryl (Rea) Schwendinger of Rochester Mn., 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren as well as numerous RV friends from all over the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward H Fortmann and Mary Weigel Fortmann.
Military Honors will be rendered at Tahoma National Cemetery on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11:30 a.m.
Ronald was loved by many, and will be missed by those who knew him.
