Born in Moorhead, Minnesota, Michelle moved to Tacoma in the 1980s and eventually worked in the metal roofing industry for three decades. She was respected by her peers and was recognized for her strong work ethic and friendly demeanor. (Her industry nicknames were “Make It Happen Hanson” and “Sunshine.”) She earned countless accolades from both customers and cohorts within the industry. She was last a highly valued project manager for Metal Sales, Inc.
Michelle will be remembered for her abiding faith in God and her steadfast love for her family. Though she endured many hardships and personal tragedies in her own life, she was ever ready with bright cheer, sound strength, and wise advice for those she loved. She was a beautiful representative of her Savior while she walked on Earth. She rests in His presence this day. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Lee Gratton, and her father, Harvey Dale Hanson. She is survived by four sisters, three nephews, five nieces and a number of great-nieces and -nephews, as well as by many cousins and good friends across many states. All celebrate her life and legacy.
She was a protector and helpmate to everyone she loved--a brick wall between them and that which would harm them. Her Norwegian orneriness and stoic sense of humor not only bolstered her in life but also elevated those whom she loved.
She selflessly and quietly contributed to various Christian ministries, especially those dedicated to education.
Her beloved cat Mister Mitts was a joy and a comfort to Michelle for nearly 17 years. He is now in the care of one of Michelle’s younger sisters.
Finally, Michelle was a dedicated Seattle Seahawks fan, as well as a prolific consumer of uplifting music. She especially loved gospel music. Need to Breathe, Brandon Lake, and Crowder were among her favorites.
Michelle loved the Oregon Coast. She called the shores there her “happy place.” She was cremated and requested a small, private ceremony on the beach at Pacific City. Her sisters will carry her ashes there and honor her final request.
