Johnathan (JT) Paul Townsel Sr. was born to Frances and Peter Townsel Sr. on July 16, 1976, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the second youngest of six children blessed to this union. Johnathan’s father, and two brothers, Michael and Phillip preceded him in death. Johnathan and his siblings shared many unforgettable moments and a special love for each other, with a shared love for Christ. Johnathan grew up in the church and had full belief and faith in God.
Johnathan received his formative education in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Lafollette Elementary School, Steuben Middle School, and in 1995, graduated from Pulaski High School. As a young man, Johnathan developed an inner athlete and was excited to play basketball, football, and joined the wrestling team. His love for sports transitioned with him into adulthood, as Johnathan was an avid sports fan.
He proudly served in the United States Army for five years as an Ammunition Specialist and was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas; Camp Humphrey, Korea; and Fort Lewis, Washington. After his dedicated years of truehearted service, Johnathan was honorably discharged in 2000. He enjoyed the nature of the city and decided to make Spanaway, Washington, his home. Johnathan was a hardworking and loyal civilian. He was employed at Joint Base Lewis-McCord until 2017. Immediately after, he began his new career as a Medical Supply Technician with McKesson Corporation. Johnathan demonstrated an excellent work ethic and valued his job immensely until his health began to decline.
The simplest pleasures and blessings in life brought great joy to Johnathan as he had a profound love for his nieces and nephews. When Johnathan became a Father, his happiness and contagious spirit impacted the lives of his children that he loved and cared for dearly. His son, John Paul Jr. and daughter, Zoey, who he affectionately called his “Ladybug,” were the “apple of his eye.” During his free time, Johnathan enjoyed going to the lake and taking treasured fishing trips on his boat with his children, family, and friends. Johnathan would have everyone laughing with his keen jokes, and always had a good time listening to the classics of hip-hop music.
Those that knew Johnathan, knew he loved football, playing a competitive game of spades, relaxing in his man cave, and entertaining on special occasions with his lively personality. His favorite teams were the Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs, and the Kansas City Chiefs. His passion for the Chiefs never wavered and he was overjoyed with excitement to watch his football team win the Super Bowl in 2020 and 2023! If you knew Johnathan, you just had to love him. His sense of humor, genuine and unique persona was one of a kind and his legacy will be forever honored.
On August 31, 2023, with his family by his side, a devoted Father and loving Brother was called to glory. Johnathan leaves to cherish his precious memories, beloved mother Frances Rosetta Townsel (deceased); sons, Zachary Riden and Johnathan Paul Townsel Jr.; daughter, Zoey Renee Townsel; brothers, Peter Townsel Jr., Bruce Townsel, and Richard Townsel (Daisha); significant other and mother of his children, Temica Singleton; best friend, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and special friends.
