Her civic contributions were born out of a love for the Arts, and for beauty associated with the Pacific Northwest. Many will remember her for her abundant generosity, serving on numerous regional and nonprofit boards: Pilchuck School of Glass, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Northwest Magazine, Washington State Historical Society, Northwest Trek Foundation and Artist’s Trust. Those who knew her well appreciated Johanne's commitment to the Arts, her knack for bringing people together around a common purpose and shared interests. Along with her commitment to The Arts, friends who knew her well also appreciated her love for entertaining, adventurous travel, great food, nature, design, bridge, Greek dancing and Danish traditions. Most important in her life was her family. John Hewitt, Jr., five children, their spouses, and her six grandchildren, plus her dear Laurie and Joel Friedman. She treasured her 3 sisters, her nieces and nephews and the entire extended family. All will remember Mor Mor, as a beautiful "mother’s mother. “
Mor Mor, we will miss you more than we can describe, but your spirit will live on in us!
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Johanne’s life on November 29th 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Old Town Music Society, 2101 North 30th Street.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made to Methow Conservancy (http://www.methowconservancy.org/).
