Gwendlyn Marie Weber known as “Gwen” passed away January 21, 2024 at home after being overwhelmed by vascular dementia. She was born March 20, 1945 in Tonopah, Nevada to Charlie and Eugenia “Jean” Weber. The family returned to Washington and then moved to Humboldt County, California. The family eventually returned to Thurston County, Washington and Gwen attended and graduated from Olympia High School.
She married Don Grate and while helping with the family logging business, she bore two sons and built a home.
She went back to school and began employment with the State of Washington. She worked for multiple agencies in information technology becoming a programmer and eventually a manager. She retired in 2006.
She remarried in 1986 to Daniel Parsons. She is survived by him; her son, Charlie (Cathy) Grate; her granddaughter, Amanda (Alexander) Jorgenson; her great grandson, Colton; her grandson, Zach Grate; her son, Matt (Angie) Grate; and her sister, Diana “Dee” Weber. All are in the Olympia area. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brothers Billie and Stevie.
She greatly enjoyed her sons and grandchildren’s sporting events (especially football) and school plays and other performances.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband as he traveled for work. She especially enjoyed visiting Hawaii for the volcanoes of the Big Island.
Her love, humor, and wit will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
There will not be any memorial service, but a memorial gathering is happening Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11:00am to 1:30pm at the Tumwater United Methodist Church. The address is 1401 Lake Park Dr, Tumwater.
