Gary Boyd Tucker, 83, lost his two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer on February 21, 2023, at his home in Shelton, Washington while being cared for by his family. Gary was born April 4, 1939, to Royce and Erna Tucker in Houston, Texas. He entered the Army as a teen and retired after twenty years of service. It was there that he met his wife Kathleen Tucker, a fellow soldier, to whom he was married for fifty-seven years until his passing. After leaving active duty, Gary worked for many years in the oil and paper industry in Texas, Alaska, and Oregon.
Gary was a dedicated loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He took seriously his role as provider and protector providing a home not only for his wife and children, but at various times his brother, niece, granddaughter, and even his children’s friends. Gary was a generous soul who was always willing to be supportive through his finances or his “mister-fix-it” talents.
Gary enjoyed an active outdoor life with his wife. He was an avid mountain climber and climbing instructor who conquered every high peak of the Pacific Northwest and others beyond. He was also a passionate sailor who sailed the Pacific and Indian Oceans from Mexico to New Zealand to the Marquess. In his later years, Gary enjoyed traveling the world and has spent time on every continent.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Kathleen Tucker; his children, Kathrine Tucker, Rebecca Tucker Moore (Jeff), and Scott Tucker (Lynn); his grandchildren, Gina Moore, Robert Moore (Taylor), Josiah Moore (Cassie), Martine Moore, Gabrielle Moore, Talie Moore, Arjay Moore, Joshua Moore, Nick Robinson, Devun Robinson, Layla Robinson, and Jules Robinson; as well as his brothers and sisters, their spouses and many nieces and nephews.
