Eugene Peter Nielsen was born in Missoula, Montana on February 12th, 1933 to Lecie and Berhardt Nielsen. Eugene was one of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Nielsen. Half his childhood was spent living on the same block as his grandparents and cousins.
The family relocated to Washington State as his father followed the timber industry as it moved west. Eugene graduated from Roy High School, and went to work for Sperry Flour Mill in Tacoma, WA.
In March of 1953 he was drafted by the Army and sent to basic training. After basic he was sent to Korea to serve during the war. He was a heavy weapons infantryman with the 9th Infantry Regiment, Co M. Following his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and ROK Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and served several more years in the Army reserve.
Eugene never married and did not have any children; however, he is survived by many nieces, nephews and one brother.
