Charles Edward Marshall (Chuck) of Lompoc, CA, passed away on January 14, 2024, in Renton, WA at the age of 81. He was born June 29, 1942 in Seattle, WA to Robert G. Marshall and Thelma C. Johnson.
Chuck was raised in Kent, Washington. Growing up he enjoyed scout exploring, swimming, diving and as a teen cruising in his Plymouth coupe. He graduated from Kent Meridian High School class of 1960.
He was the loving husband of the late Jan Marshall, his cherished wife of 55 years, who had preceded him in passing (2022). In the spring of 1977 the couple welcomed their son Jerald Marshall. The family resided in the Covington / Black Diamond area for 48+ years.
Chuck was a veteran of the Air Force (3), Army (3) and Army Reserve (18) retiring in 1994 as Sergeant e-7. His dedication of service to his military associations exemplified his character throughout his lifetime. As a USPS Mailman he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his job. Highlighted by his 2,996 hrs of accrued sick leave at the time of his retirement in 2003.
In retirement Chuck was an active member of The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA) Chapter 74 in Tacoma, Washington, serving as Vice President. Each year, Chuck and his chapter of brothers could be seen proudly walking in the Auburn Veterans Day Parade.
Chuck had a contentious childhood and sought refuge in creative writing and mathematics. Innately, years later he taught himself to write code from command in the pre internet era. A dog lover or per se a dog whisperer. His compassion for mans best friend was obvious when on multiple occasions he rescued a dog with an existing injury. Which sometimes drew a point of contention between he and Jan:) During his spare time Chuck enjoyed family outings, JBLM shopping with Jan, coin stacking, system administration
Although a man of few words, he was a man of fatherly love. His humility, compassion and graciousness towards others will not be forgotten.
In addition to his son Jerald, Chuck is survived by brothers, Jim Poor (Paula), Pat Poor (Tracy); and sisters, Marilyn Poor, Linda White; along with many in-laws and family friends.
A service with full military honors will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA on February 29th @10:30am.
