Betty Marilyn Sampson peacefully passed away in God’s loving care on Mach 19, 2025, at the age of 96, at Eliseo Retirement Community in Tacoma, Washington. She was born on August 1, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska, to John and Georgia Reeder.
As the daughter of a traveling salesman, Betty graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle. In August of 1948, she married Raymond Paul Sampson Jr., who precedes her in death. Together they lovingly raised their family in Lakewood, Washington. Betty devoted herself to a fulfilling career as a public-school teacher, retiring as a beloved high school educator from the Clover Park School District. Betty and Ray were long time members at St. Paul Lutheran until they relocated to Arizona in their later years.
Her devotion to her family was unwavering, reflected in her commitment to daily family meals and attending Sunday morning worship services together. Betty was both a nurturing mother and a guiding force, praising her children publicly while instilling values at home. She was passionate about golf and quilting, and her family cherished the unique quilts she crafted, each stitched together with unrelenting love and care.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan Olson and son, John Sampson. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Rachel Jimerson, Michael Sampson, Eric, Scott and Sara Olson, along with seven great-grandchildren—Jack and Elizabeth Sampson, Lennon, Tristan and Ashton Olson and Audrianna and August Olson. Another Olson grandchild is on the way, bringing even more joy to the family.
Every written correspondence from Betty carried a special message of faith, often sealed with her heartfelt reminder; “Trust in the Lord!”
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 2553 Tacoma Ave S, Tacoma. All are welcome to join in celebrating the life of this remarkable woman who was a true child of God.
