He graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1945. Soon after, he enlisted in the Navy and served in Guam. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse in History and Education. He received a master's degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of Milwaukee, then later his Business degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
He taught, coached and then became Assistant Principal at Port Washington High School, Port Washington, Wisconsin, was principal of Pewaukee High School and later the business manager of Pewaukee School District in Pewaukee, Wisconsin.
He was actively involved in both the town and the Community Church of Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin. Because of his volunteer work, Chuck always commented that his tombstone should read, “here lies the dishwasher.” He had a great passion for fishing and a special bond with his fishing buddies.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years Barbara (Bobbie) Behnke, and his children Bill Behnke, Jim (Barbara) Behnke and Susan (Rick) Gering, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Chuck had a sentimental soul and deeply loved his family.
The family would like to thank the Royal Oaks Community, Summit Hospice and the Veteran’s Association for the care and compassion they gave Chuck.
