

Dr. William N. Hole, of The Villages, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Nov 5, 2025 at the age of 97.
Dr. Hole was born in Syracuse, New York, in February 1928. He was the son of Stanley and Helen (Avery) Hole. He attended Liverpool School, graduating in 1946 as salutatorian of his high school class. He served in the U.S. Army of occupation in Italy from 1946 through 1948, in the 74th and 98th Army bands. He attended Syracuse University as an undergraduate and then went to the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1954 with the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. He interned at the Chicago Osteopathic Hospital, followed by a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Riverside Osteopathic Hospital in Michigan.
Dr. Hole practiced in the downriver Detroit area for 30 years. He was associated with Riverside Osteopathic Hospital, Seaway Hospital, and Heritage Hospital, and had his own practice in Taylor MI until his retirement in 1988.
Dr. Hole served on the board of trustees of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists from 1981 through 1986. He was elected President of the college in 1988, serving one year, and is a distinguished Fellow in the college.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bill lived a long, rich, and joyful life. He loved traveling the world, never stopped learning, he studied and played bridge and chess up until his death. He was an accomplished painter, musician (saxophone and clarinet), and a lover of the arts, theater, music, wine, family, and friends.
He was a natural athlete and loved golfing, tennis, boating and was an avid skier. He was a member of the US Army Ski Team in Italy and made many trips to the Rockies throughout his life. He last skied in Utah at the age of 92. He ziplined at age 94 and golfed through the age of 96.
He is survived and loved tremendously by his children, William N. Avery, DO of Hutchinson, MN, James W. Hole, DO of Fresno, CA, Rebecca E. Hall, DVM of Chandler, TX, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his brother James Hole of Norwich, NY.
