Virginia, Ginny, Hausmann of Beverly Hills, Florida was born in pre-WW2 Philadelphia and raised in the New Jersey suburbs of New York. Ginny was a Delta Gamma at Gettysburg College and went on to have a successful career in human resources management in the defense sector, private industry, and most notably was a long serving HR Director at the Boston Museum of Science. After her kids went off into the world Ginny became Ginny Fitzgerald and she and her love, Dick moved to Florida for new adventures. True to form, this accomplished vocalist, although admittedly average piano player, avid sailor, and respected church member took on her new home State with zeal. Along the way in Florida, Ginny became a nature tour boat operator and guide at Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park, a Citrus County elections official, a Citrus County court mediator, and a volunteer firefighter with Citrus County Fire Rescue. Golden Retrievers were always found in their home, as over the years Ginny and Dick took in a series of rescue dogs who were lavished with love, attention, and an occasional treat from the table. Ginny and Dick cruised the coast of Florida in their series of small boats and cruised the world on everything from riverboats to the largest luxury liners, finding joy and friends wherever they travelled. Ginny found great joy as a vocalist, board member, and service leader at Unitarian Universalist congregations in Sherborn, MA, Gainesville, FL and Citrus Springs, FL. Her faith and the friends she found at the UU brought her great comfort. Ginny was always a great source of wisdom and unfiltered advice for her children. Kirsten and Sam sought her counsel often, cherished their visits to Florida, and were a great source of pride for Ginny as they grew to be successful adults with families of their own. Susan, Michael, and Debbie were more than stepchildren, to Ginny they were her cherished kids. Ginny’s grandchildren always felt her love and she beamed when speaking of them. As time passed Ginny slowed somewhat but was still a well-known figure around the Citrus County community. When she and Dick walked into any number of restaurants their favorite food and drink hit the table without delay.
Saturday, December 11th 2021 Ginny left us on her terms after a short illness. Vibrant, beautiful, and witty ‘til her last moments. Ginny was a rock not only for her family, but for so many coworkers and friends.
Ginny is survived by her husband Richard Fitzgerald, daughter Kirsten McCandless, son Sam Dahl, stepdaughter Susan Terino and husband John, stepson Michael Fitzgerald and wife Cindy, stepdaughter Debbie Vendzulas and husband Vinny. Ginny’s beloved grandchildren are Emily, Hannah, Abby, John, Lizzie, Katherine, Danielle, Devon, Shaun, and Aiden. Ginny will also be missed by a host of great grandchildren, cousins, nephews and her best friends Sally and Noel. Ginny was predeceased by her parents Louise and Clarence Hausmann.
