Robert Choate McClosky, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away on November 4, 2019, while in Hospice care. We believe that he stayed on this earth long enough to see his hometown baseball team, The Washington Nationals, win the World Series. Go Nats!!
Bob was born in Washington, DC, to Robert L. and Barbara C. McClosky on September 21, 1949. He spent his youth exploring the woods of Brookeville, MD, working on a neighbor’s farm, swimming competitively and coaching. He lived 68 of his 70 years in Maryland until moving to The Villages, Florida in 2017. After graduating college in Pennsylvania, he married and started working in the world of finance, rising from a teller beginning to serving as a successful CEO of several prominent credit unions in the DC Metro area. He cherished the raising of his two children and wholeheartedly participated in all family activities. Bob loved to rest and stay put, but went along with every adventure and travel experience planned by his wife, Barb. He loved to winter ski, summer fish and boat, golf, watch football and baseball, play poker, invest money wisely, and in later life, play pickleball. He was an amazing waffle maker for his grandchildren, grill expert and holiday baker (him making the family recipes of pumpkin chiffon pie and Kentucky Bourbon whiskey cake will be remembered lovingly forever). He was blessed with a full and productive life.
The loved ones of his life are his wife of 46 years, Barbara, his children Christi (Lou) and Todd (Lindsey) and his precious grandchildren: Aubrey, Isabella, Reese, Sophia, Camryn, Addison, and Matthew. He also leaves his sister Thelma (Dave) and so many others that have touched his life with meaningful friendships.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Salem UMC in Brookeville, MD on January 5, 2020. Bob’s cremated remains will be lovingly scattered by his family in a variety of meaningful places. If others wish to honor his life, they can send a memory to the Legacy.com website and/or donate money to the American Diabetes Association.
