Paul Henry Whitman

Paul Whitman, CLU, age 85, under the care of Vitas Hospice group, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family at Vista Lake Memory Care on Thursday, June 24, 2021. Paul was born in Hartford, CT. in 1935, the son of the late Henry and Elna (Gillen) Whitman. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine (Whitman) Hutton. Paul was raised in Hartford, attended Bulkely High School and upon graduating, joined the US Navy. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Tennessee and served aboard a destroyer escort during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge he went to work for Phoenix Mutual Life Ins. Co. and served as Office Manager in their field offices in N.C., MD., TX., and CA. In the mid 80’s, he returned to the Home Office in Hartford, and became the Director of Field Services. Upon his retirement from Phoenix, he worked at the Millbrook Golf Course in Windsor (run by his best friend, Norman Blais) as the Pro-shop Manager for several years. He and Joan moved to The Villages, FL in 2008. He is survived by his Wife of 62 years, Joan; son, Jeffrey Paul Whitman; daughter, Tracy Lynn (Martinik) Whitman; his sister, Holly Morran and her husband Bill, of West Hartford, CT., and their family; his sister-in-law, Jean of East Hartford, and her family; his sister-in-law Ellie (Foisey) Tule of The Villages, and her family; his grandsons, Norris and Preston Martinik, and extended cousins & their families in CA, CT, & FL. He was a wonderful man, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many… and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date.
