Kenneth Earl Perkins Jr. was born on April 18, 1943 in Chicago, I’ll., the oldest child of Kenneth and Ruth Perkins. Ken’s father was a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force. Ken was proud that he grew up experiencing different parts of the country as his family was moved from base to base. The location Ken spoke of frequently was 3 years in Fairbanks, Alaska where his twin brothers Ronald and Donald were born.
After graduation from High School in San Antonio, Texas, Ken joined the US Navy in 1961. He served as an Electronics Technician assigned to the USS Fulton AS 11 sub tender. It was on a sea duty voyage into Port Everglades in December 1964 that he fell in love with Florida. When Ken got his discharge he headed to Fort Lauderdale to start his civilian life. Taking advantage of the G.I. Bill and college loans to enroll in Broward Community College in Davie, Florida and Florida Atlantic University to receive a Masters in Administration. Ken became an Assistant Principal at Ramblewood Middle School in Coral Springs,Florida and a Principal at Westpine Middle School in Sunrise,Florida.
Over the years, the family made many trips to Central Florida going to Disney, showing horses and collies. When planning for retirement, Central Florida was the only choice. Finding Kings Ridge in Clermont in 1999 was a blessing.
Ken enjoyed golf, going to the casino and Disney. He served on the Kings Ridge Master Board and the Manchester Neighborhood’s Board for many years.
Left to mourn are his wife of 57 years, Gail Perkins. daughter Mary DeFusco, son-in-law Anthony DeFusco, grandchildren, Andrew DeFusco,Abigail DeFusco and brother, Ronald Perkins. Preceding Ken in death are his parents and his brother Donald Perkins. Ken was dedicated to any task he took on. He had a ready sense of humor and always willing to share his wisdom when sought. He was a loving husband and father. He will be missed.
