She was born in Allentown, PA to the late Mr. Charles Merics and Joan Seng. Karleen is survived by her loving husband, Ray Beischl, daughters Julianne Daniels and Jamie Smith, rescue dog Alfie, and grandchildren Olivia Daniels, Lauren Daniels, Abygail Smith, and Joshua Smith.
Karleen lived a life of strength, service, adventure, and love.
Karleen and Ray met at just 17 and 18 years old, respectively, and were married December 21, 1972. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this past year. Initially living in Allentown, PA, they welcomed two daughters in the following years after their wedding. They later moved to Coplay, PA for many years, and then spent their retirement in Summerfield, FL, in the sun.
Karleen was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1976 and fought her way through this battle, going on to devote her life to service via Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, and to her family. Her health battle did not end there, though, she fought her way through numerous ailments, always coming out on top. If there is one thing Karleen was - it was tough.
Karleen had been a Girl Scout for over 55 years and was an inspiration and mentor to countless girls and young women as they were navigating the toughest parts of their lives. She taught them to be strong, to be independent, to be creative, to be adventurous, to be accepting, and most of all, to be kind. Group 63415 and Camp Mosey Wood forever had her heart. “The mountains are calling and I must go”.
She was employed at a variety of locations during her life, but none of these as important as the job of wife, mother, and grandmother.
Karleen and Ray took many cross country motorcycle road trips on their Harleys together. Her favorite destinations included Sturgis, The Badlands, Yosemite, Moab, and so many more. Even closer to home, she loved spending summer days at the Jersey Shore and more recently, Daytona Beach. And, she NEVER forgot to bring back souvenirs for her grandchildren.
She will forever be missed by all who knew her.
Oh, and, just so you know, there are only 10 months until Christmas.
A celebration of life is planned to take place in the late spring of 2025 near Lehigh Valley, PA. Updates will be posted to Facebook on family accounts. All are welcome.
