Pelt, Harvey Gene, of Homosassa, FL, passed away, Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the age of 83. Gene is survived by his wife, Mary Pelt; Daughters Karen Whitmore and Kathy Butler; 7 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
Gene was born in Tampa on August 15, 1941 to Joseph H Pelt and Mabel (Berryhill) Pelt. He was a graduate of Hillsborough High School in 1959. He attended the University of Tampa and the University of South Florida. He was in ROTC in High School, National Guard, and Airforce. He married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth, in 1964. He was a reserve Sheriff in Hillsborough County in the 1970’s. He was elected President of the GTE Union in 1985. Retired from General Telephone Company in 1995. He was a member of Brandon Lodge 114, a 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chassahowitzka, Fl and served as a Deacon for 24 years. He was in one of the first groups in the nuisance alligator program in the 1970’s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and alligator hunting. He was still active in gator hunting in 2019, at the age of 78.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H Pelt and Mabel (Berryhill) Pelt. He was also preceded in death by 3 siblings. He will be forever missed by his family and friends and will live in our hearts forever. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Chassahowitzka.
