Donald “Don” H. Atherton, 94, passed away August 12, 2016. Don was born in Danville, Illinois on November 8, 1921 to Cecil and Jean Atherton. As a young man he served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Chief Pharmacists Mate from 1939 to 1946. He went on to graduate from the University of Miami with a degree in Accounting. He would later spend 35 years with Ft. Lauderdale Lincoln Mercury as a comptroller. He enjoyed playing golf for over 60 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years Dorothy and daughter, Mary Joe Zarco. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Dick) Weiss, Donna (Tim) Novacic and Debra Brown. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a sister Margaret (Robert) Harvey. There will be a memorial service at the Carriage House in Oxford, FL, August 28th, 2016 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Village Honor Flight, Inc.
