Barbara enjoyed living her life to the fullest. She loved singing in the church choir, taking cruises, cooking, entertaining and being around friends and family. She was known for making everyone feel welcomed and comfortable, constantly creating laughter, and assuring that no one went hungry!
Barbara grew up in Falls Creek, PA, and met her future husband, Howie, through her sister who was dating his college roommate. After Howie proposed, she moved to his hometown of North Bellmore located on Long Island, NY where they were married and raised their four children. Upon retirement, 17 years ago, they relocated to Florida to start a new chapter in their lives, celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary this past year.
Barbara was very special to so many different people and wore many different hats. She was a daughter, a sister, a niece, a loving wife and became “mom” to her four children. While her children were young, she volunteered her time as a class mom and as a scout mom, acted like a taxi service running all the kids to their various activities, and was their number one fan. When her children became a little older, she went back to work as a secretary as well as went back to college to earn her degree. As her children had families of their own, she then became an active grandma, traveling to her grandchildren’s various activities, baking cookies and spreading her love.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Howard Pollitt; her four children, Kevin (Janet) Pollitt, Brian (Kayla) Pollitt, Diana (Bradley) Owens and Laura (Travis) Victor; her eight grandchildren, Chase and Kendall (Kevin), Declan (Brian), Ashley and Ben (Diana) and Mason, Maddox and Colton (Laura); her siblings, Nancy Britton and Bob Britton as well as her brother-in-law, Tom Burkett. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Shirley Britton and her sister, Peggy Burkett.
A “Celebration of Life” will be planned around Barbara’s birthday in mid-spring for all to attend and celebrate her beautiful life. In remembrance of Barbara, the family has selected the American Diabetes Association as the recipient of any donations due to the impact diabetes had on both her life and other family members.
