Mark passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness.
He was 70 years old.
He was raised in Millbrae, California. He attended Capuchino High School where he was active in track and a member of an award winning band in which he played the trombone.
He worked his way through college graduating from San Francisco State University with a B.S. in Clinical Sciences.
He served his country honorably achieving a rank of Electricians Mate 1st class on a nuclear attack submarine (Boomer).
He transitioned those skills to having a successful career as a department head at Lawrence Livermore Lab.
Mark enjoyed fishing and bowling and owned several high performance automobiles. He loved football and his Pittsburgh Steelers and SF 49ers.
He was predeceased by his parents Carl & Marjorie Kaufeldt.
Mark is survived by his son Daniel Kaufeldt (Camille), their children Skylan and Kehlan, daughter Amanda Kaufeldt, his brother Tim Kaufeldt (Gloria) and sister Jan Greiner (Greg), his nephew Tim Scott Kaufeldt Jr (Mika) and their daughter Nicole, and his niece Jennifer Byas (Dan) and their children Rosemary, Gunnar and Johnny.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
