Wesley Charles Sell, known as “Homer” to his family and friends, passed away on February 17th, 2025 in Spokane, WA with his family by his side. Homer was born in Colville, WA, the fifth of six kids, on February 4th, 1939, to Leonard and Ella (Keefe) Sell. He grew up in Northport, WA and he graduated from Northport High School in 1958 where he played baseball and basketball for the Mustangs. After graduation, he married Betty Lewis on July 4th, 1958, in Nakusp, BC Canada. They made their home in Northport and raised their four wonderful children. Homer worked outdoors to support his family in the mining, logging and sawmill industries. He was also an exceptional upholsterer and spent many hours in his shop working on projects. You could also find him working with his woodworking tools or using his sawmill. He was very active in the Northport community where he served on the Northport School Board for several years. He loved baseball and he spent 25 years coaching local and All-Star Babe Ruth teams and umpiring Babe Ruth and High School games. He also loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports. He was a member of the Colville Eagles where he and Betty loved to go dancing on the weekends. For those that knew Homer, he didn’t miss an opportunity to move around the dance floor.
Homer was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt with his family and friends. He spent many hours roaming the hills in the area. On one of his trips to the Blue Mountains he was successful and returned home with the “big” bull elk. He also taught his kids and grandkids to hunt.
There was rarely a moment when Homer and Betty didn’t have visitors stopping by and there was always a pot of coffee waiting. Many hours were spent sitting in the front yard visiting with family, friends and neighbors and they were often joined by the multitude of deer they loved to feed.
Homer was preceded in death by Betty, his wife of 65 years, his parents Leonard and Ella Sell, and brothers Mace, Sid and Larry Sell. He is survived by his brother Bob Sell and sister Audrey Fleming (Ted), children Ray Sell (Teri) of Colville, WA, Julie Eyres (Bryan) of Robson BC, Canada, Lori Allen of Kettle Falls, WA and Leann Fenn (Rod) of Quincy, WA; his 10 grandchildren, Jeff Sell, Jessica Heater (Cody), Sharona Witwicki (Charles), Wesley Taylor (Marie), Casey Cox (Olivia), Teri Rae Cox (Phil), Holly Sligar (Zach), Chuck Fenn (Krystofer), Megan Fenn and Chris Strong (Dena).
