Robert (Bob) Lievense of Curlew WA passed away on 08/08/23 at the age of 88. He was born on 01/29/1935 in Athboy, SD. When Bob was 2 years old, his Mother loaded up a 1929 Model A car with his sister Ruth, Brothers Jim and Harold and drove from SD to Renton WA where he lived until he was 29 and then he moved to Ellensburg.
From Oct 1954 to Aug 1956, he was in the Army in Korea. After he returned, he worked for the MaBell Telephone Company. In May of 1963 he married Carol Billings. He continued working for MaBell until Friday March 13th, 1964 and the next day the Family moved to their Ranch in Badger Pocket – Ellensburg, WA. In 1979, the family moved to Curlew, WA where he lived until he passed.
He was actively involved in Team/Calf Roping in Ellensburg where he was President the Roping Club for a number of years. After he retired from ranching in 2000, he started playing golf and then at the young age of 75 he decided to take flying lessons and got his pilot’s license when he was 78 years old! And he loved flying!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Hazel, his sister Ruth, and brothers, Harold and Jim. Nephews Don and Steve, and his beloved grandchildren Roger and Jennifer and great grandson Tyler.
He is survived by his Wife Carol Lievense, Daughter Jeanine (Rodney) Hendershot, Son Dan (Kynda) Lievense. Grandchildren Russell (Tarra) Strandberg, Ryan Hendershot, Jamie Bro and JosieAnn Lievense. Great Grandchildren Blake and Sarah Strandberg and Atreyu Mokhtari.
Bob was a very well respected member of the community. One thing he loved to do was visit. This was especially hard in the last few weeks, as he hardly had a voice from the Vocal Cord Cancer as it had just about taken his voice. He was lovingly referred to as ‘Cowboy Bob’ by many and often compared to “Robert Duval”!
The family would like to thank Curlew EMT’s, Hospice and Republic Hospital Staff for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Curlew School on Saturday August 26th at 1:00 pm. Then there will be a Potluck after the Service at Curlew Civic Hall (may take potluck items to the Civic Hall before the service if you like).
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to Curlew EMT’s, Hospice or Republic Hospital.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/spokane-cremation for the Lievense family.
