John was born on September 7, 1948, at Murphy Memorial Hospital in Whittier, California. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Graham; his parents, Roseanna Kuntz and Harold William Graham; and his stepfather, Thomas McCoy.
John graduated from Norwalk High School in Norwalk, California, and attended Cerritos Junior College. He began his working life at Five Points Tire Shop in Norwalk, where his strong work ethic and friendly nature were already evident. On May 12, 1974, he married the love of his life, Linda. In 1978, they moved together to Spokane, Washington, where they built a life rooted in family, travel, game nights, and a shared love of classic radio and television programs, which originally aired live, long before the advent of high-fidelity.
In Spokane, John worked first for Goodyear Tires. He and Linda later ran a daycare center out of their home for several years, providing care and stability to many families in their community. John eventually began a long and meaningful career as a custodian with the Central Valley School District. He retired in 2018 from Evergreen Middle School, where he was far more than a custodian—he was a beloved fixture of the school community.
John was known for his great sense of humor, outgoing personality, and unwavering dedication to his work. Students and faculty alike adored him, and his impact was so profound that Evergreen Middle School once held an entire assembly in his honor—“John Graham Day”—where the whole school gathered wearing fake versions of his signature mustache. It was a moment that perfectly captured how deeply he was loved and appreciated.
John is survived by his four children: Jason Graham and his wife Tanya Graham; Kasey Graham and his husband Ian Liberto; Travis Graham; and Meghann Graham. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Landen and Ellie Graham, who brought him great pride and joy. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he leaves behind his faithful Great Dane Midnight, who is indeed the goodest boy.
John will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the quiet but lasting way he made people feel seen and valued. His presence enriched the lives of his family, friends, coworkers, and countless students. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A celebration of life service will be held for John at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday May 9th at 11:00 AM with a reception at Evergreen Middle School to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Spokane Humane Society.
