Obituary for Guy H. Graber May 1, 1949 – January 3, 2025 Othello, WA Guy H. Graber, 75, of Othello, WA, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, with his wife, Trish, by his side. Born May 1, 1949, in Yakima, WA, Guy lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and a true love for teaching and the people around him. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, coach, and friend, Guy was known for his easy-going nature, wicked sense of humor, and unwavering generosity of spirit. Guy could always be found enjoying the simpler things— whether cruising country roads in his 1966 Shelby Cobra or Ford Raptor, casting a line in his favorite fishing hole, or telling his signature bad jokes. His laughter was contagious, and his ability to tell a good story made every conversation memorable. After graduating from Wapato High School in 1967, Guy went on to earn two degrees from Washington State University. He later traveled the art circuit as a sculptor, eventually becoming a renowned teacher and artist. For 27 years, he taught art at McFarland Junior High School in Othello, where he also coached cross-country and track and served as Athletic Director. His students and athletes respected him not just for his knowledge, but for the way he made learning—and life—fun. Guy’s contributions didn’t go unnoticed: he was named Othello Teacher of the Year and earned a spot in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He also volunteered at the Old Hotel Art Gallery and was an active member of the Othello Lions Club and Othello Education Association. Outside of the classroom, Guy enjoyed reading sporting magazines, studying history and watching nature shows. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and traveler. His lawn, always neatly mowed, was another source of pride, as was his collection of stories. A true free spirit, Guy lived life on his own terms and embraced every moment. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him—whether through the lessons he taught, the art he created, or the countless memories he made. Guy spent 45 happy years with his wife, Trish Graber. He is survived by his daughter Brynn (Shaun) Wilson, son Cade Graber, and grandchildren Ava and Alese Wilson, and Trayson Graber. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Ruth Graber, and brothers Gary and James Graber. In keeping with Guy’s love of fishing, his ashes will be spread at the Clearwater River and Lake Tahoe—two places that were close to his heart.
