Grant William Maclay

Grant (Jerry) Maclay was born a preemie in Missoula, Montana, on Feb. 25, 1936, four days short of a leap year. He was the first of three children born to Grant and Margie Maclay. Jerry grew up a proud fourth generation Montanan surrounded by love from his parents, his fabulous grandparents, Harry and Mae Maclay, and many wonderful aunts and uncles, especially Aunt Mabel. He lived in the Greenacres area of Missoula, attended Missoula schools, and graduated from Missoula County High School.

Throughout his years in high school, Jerry worked for his father at the Maclay Market, a family meat market and grocery store. He served his country for two years in the US Army. When he returned from the service, Jerry had a few local jobs before attending barber school in Spokane. For the next 43 years, he worked off and on at barbering in Missoula, enjoying the lasting friendships with many of his clients. Jerry lived in the Spokane Valley and snow birded to Southern California for the past 17 years.

Jerry loved playing golf and snooker, as well as reading, enjoying and playing music, watching sports (GO GRIZ), and spending quality time with his large family. He loved being with all the fellas he competed against.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy, and six children and step children: Sheri (Larry), KC (Karen), Gary (Dana), Laurie (Mark), Teresa (Eric) and Lori (Travis), as well as 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, brother David, and sister Margie Mae (Bob). He was preceded in death by wife Jerri and son Scott. He was always proud that he, his brother and sister made it past 85 in their senior years.

Jerry became a Christian in 2011 and looked forward to being with his Lord and Shepherd. He faced his final years with courage as he fought cancer, heart failure, and numerous health issues for more than five years. Jerry passed into heaven on June 19, 2026. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at the Mission Meadows Community Center, 19312 E Nora Ln, Spokane Valley, WA, on Friday, July 3, at 2 pm.
