Glenda was born September 4, 1941 in Okanogan to parents Glen Cook and Delores Picard. The family moved from the Okanogan Valley to Seattle when Glenda was in grade school.
In her teens, Glenda married Doug Smith and lived in the Seattle area while raising three children, Becky, Linda, and Ron.
Later, Glenda returned to her home in the Okanogan Valley and stayed, spending most of her life in Tonasket, working as a bartender and waitress, cooking for the fire crews, working at the local hospital, and doing odd jobs for people.
Glenda was a force to be reckoned, living life on her own terms, always speaking her mind. Strong willed, bright, creative, she was a jack of all trades - there wasn’t much she couldn’t do when she put her mind to it, including skinning a rattlesnake.
Making stained glass, sewing quilts, crocheting intricate doilies, reading and collecting science fiction novels, crafting, doing NYT crossword puzzles, gardening, refurbishing furniture and household goods, was how she spent much of her time over the years.
One of Glenda’s favorite joys in life was spending time outdoors, especially fishing at one of the local lakes, or collecting special shells and rocks on a beach walk. For many years she picked local wild asparagus to pickle in jars, and also loved to pick blackberries west of the mountains to make jam. She made the best chocolate zucchini bread.
A member of the Eagles and American Legion for decades, she liked to have a good time, and her social life included playing trivia, gambling, bingo, playing cards, and seeing her friends at the Tonasket Eagles, a place she considered her second home.
Glenda’s family would like to thank the staff at Mid-Valley Hospital, her primary care physician, and Enhabit Hospice Group for their excellent care of Glenda during her illness before she died.
Glenda is survived by her sister Lori Cook; her daughter Rebecca; grandchildren Vin Smith, Chris Wood, Jessica Crane, Miranda York, and Ruby Smith; 4 great grandchildren and 4 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother Stan Cook; daughter Linda; son Ron; and former partner Debra Kral.
