Jerry was born on February 3, 1933 in Naches, WA to Marie Jensen and Edwin Chase, joining his brother Charles and sister Norma Ennis on the Chase homestead where they spent their childhood, and Jerry and his wife Joye later resided.
After graduating from Naches Valley High School in 1952, Jerry joined the US Air Force and spent 3 1/2 years in Wiesbaden, Germany. After returning home, he enjoyed logging, working for the US Forest Service and then spent 25 years with the Department of Transportation doing road maintenance like plowing snow in the winter and opening Chinook Pass in the spring - he loved running the heavy equipment!
Jerry had many hobbies, including motorcycles, snowmobiling, and boating, and he loved spending time outdoors and traveling with his family and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, brother, sister, three sisters-in-law, and his son Michael Kim.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Joy of over 64 years, his son Troy (Wendy) and daughter Penna (Jerry), grandchildren April, Jason (Molly), Alexa (Curtis), Connor, Danielle (Jake), Tanner (Makayla), and Keely (Garrett), and great-grandchildren Jaedyn, Adesyn, Anthony, Tucker, Willow, Callie, and Ava - as well as two brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Jerry in his final days. In lieu of flowers, they ask that donations be made to the Nile-Cliffdell Fire Department, sent in care of Brookside Funeral Home (P.O. Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936), who is currently caring for the family.
A Celebration of Life for Jerry will be planned for a later date in the spring.
