Carol Ann (Tortorelli) (Johnson) Shopbell of Spokane, Washington, passed away peacefully at home, with her daughter by her side, on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born on June 3, 1941, in Spokane, Washington, to Sam Sr. and Edith (Teraceno) Tortorelli. Carol grew up in Spokane, developing lifelong interests that shaped her career and hobbies.
Carol graduated from West Valley High School in 1959 and made a career as a bookkeeper with Tidyman’s grocery stores and the Walgreen’s pharmacy chain.
Throughout her life, Carol was actively involved in a number of clubs and organizations, including the Washington State Horsemen’s games division and, more recently, the Western Dance Center, where she was an avid dancer and cuer around the northwest. She traveled by RV all over the United States to attend dance festivals and conventions. Additionally, Carol was a regular volunteer for the Spokane County Fair.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Sr. and Edith Tortorelli, her brother, Sam Tortorelli, and her husband, Donald James Shopbell.
She is survived by her brother, John Tortorelli; her former spouse, E. Jerry Johnson (Murielle); her children, Lori (Johnson) Hobbs, Tony Johnson (Elizabeth), and Jerry Johnson; her grandchildren, Sarah Hobbs (Connor), Lyndzie (Johnson) Blanton (Isiah), Kneight Johnson, and Charlotte Johnson (Riley); and her four great-grandchildren.
