August 9, 1955 – August 21, 2026
Brett W. Flanagan, beloved husband, brother, uncle, friend, and respected member of the Spokane community, passed away on August 21, 2026, in Spokane, Washington, at the age of 71.
Brett was born on August 9, 1955. He was a proud graduate of Selkirk High School in Metaline, Washington, and later attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney, where he earned his college degree. His years at Eastern Washington University were especially meaningful to him. He made many wonderful lifelong friendships there, and he treasured those friendships throughout his life.
Brett built a successful career as an Employee Benefits Broker and was highly respected by his clients and business associates throughout Spokane. Over the years, he developed many lasting professional relationships and friendships. Those who knew Brett professionally appreciated not only his knowledge and success, but also his honesty, kindness, and genuine interest in people.
Family was always important to Brett, and he was especially loved by his nieces and many nephews. He was a wonderful uncle who took great pleasure in being part of their lives and watching them grow.
Brett was also a devoted sports fan. He passionately followed the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, Washington State University Cougars, and Eastern Washington University Eagles. Whether watching a game or talking sports with friends and family, Brett always had a team to cheer for.
But of all the things Brett enjoyed, fishing held a special place in his heart. He loved fishing and found a sense of peace and happiness whenever he was on the water. Golf was another favorite pastime, and he especially enjoyed playing at beautiful Latah Creek Golf Course. Brett often said that when he needed to relax, he would close his eyes and imagine himself fishing on the Pend Oreille River or golfing at Latah Creek. Those simple moments of peace and happiness captured something special about who Brett was.
Brett is survived by his beloved wife, Luann who he met her first night of college at EWU and were married for 47 years, and his four brothers: Mike Flanagan, Randy Flanagan, Dennis Flanagan, and Bob Flanagan, all of whom survive him. He is also survived by his many beloved nieces and nephews, along with countless friends, colleagues, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration Memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church 316 E. 24th Avenue, Spokane, WA, 99203 on Sept. 11, 2026, at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Brett's memory may be made to Hospice House of Spokane, Washington, in appreciation for the compassionate care and support they provide to patients and their families.
