Jo was born at home in Gaines County, Texas, in December of 1931.
She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior on October 29, 1944.
She graduated high school in June of 1949, and married her high school sweetheart, Bill Elliston, on September 9, 1949.
Shortly after she married, Bill began to work for the union and they started traveling all over the U.S. Their first stop was Blackfoot, Idaho. She couldn't wait to begin her journey into motherhood, and Rusty was born in Blackfoot in September of 1950. They moved back to Texas in 1952, and Mark was born in Colorado City, Texas, in April of 1955. In 1957 they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and Cyndi was born in 1961. During their five year stint in Colorado they had a farm, and it was there where she was mauled by a flock of chickens. She never grew to love them again, and shortly after that they sold the farm .
In 1962 they settled in Tucson, Arizona, where they raised their three children. In 1979 they moved to Tri-Cities, Washington, where Jo began attending Riverview Baptist Church. In December of 1988 she moved to Spokane, where she resided until her passing.
She was a lifelong learner and loved studying the Bible. Her Bible is filled with countless notes and highlighted /underlined sections. She loved the Lord with all her heart and had a passion for sharing him with others. It is because of her legacy that many of us know Him today. She faithfully served in every season of life she entered. This included serving in Sunday School, helping on church bus routes, volunteering in VBS programs, leading Awana groups; and later in life she continued serving in church, as well as hosting family events, traveling for loved ones' celebrations and babysitting all the grandbabies. Once you had met Jo, it was almost impossible to find a more generous person on this Earth. She shared all she had and never regretted it. She loved deeply.
She was an incredible friend, daughter, mother, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma. She will be greatly missed, forever remembered, and we look forward to seeing her again one day.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her son Rusty, and her granddaughter Merri. She leaves behind her son Mark (TerriAnn), her daughter Cyndi (Joe), and her daughter-in-law Linda, along with countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
