Betty Ann (Black) Jackson, of White Swan, Washington, met her Heavenly Father and joined daughter Jaurette Michelle, on June 29, 2023. She was born in Dania, Florida to Jesse and Nora Black. She was the ninth of 13 children. Her parents instilled love for the Lord in the entire family.
Betty moved to White Swan with her husband Thomas L. Jackson, and their three young daughters—Jaurette, Kremiere, and Barbette. They were later joined by brother Thomas L. Jackson II. She often said that they had arrived at the end of the Earth, where there were no streetlights, which was a far cry from her hometown. However, she came to love the town and its people on the Yakama Indian Reservation, as family.
Betty was often referred to as the “Original” Betty Crocker. She was a master chef and seamstress who could literally make anything. But it was her love of raising children that she dedicated 27 years to one of her most prized possessions—Jackson Daycare. Started as the result of her son not having neighborhood friends to play with, her business in the rural community grew to become the premier daycare where families knew their children would not only be cared for but loved beyond measure. She retired in 2002, leaving a footprint on the hearts of many families that she touched while their children were in her care.
Faith was the cornerstone of her life. From childhood continuing through her adult life, she never wavered from her faith in God, even through the many medical treatments. She had boundless energy and talents and never missed an opportunity to do the right thing and voice her strong opinions. Upon retirement, and a move to Yakima, her health continued to decline, but not before spending many years celebrating holidays, birthdays, and special occasions with her family.
Betty always preached the value of education. She graduated from Attucks High School in Dania, FL and later attended Berean Institute in Philadelphia, PA. She finished her Business Administration studies at Tennessee A&I State University in Nashville, TN.
Betty was actively involved as a 4-H Leader, member of the Red Hat Club and Bible Study Fellowship. Her hobbies included bridge, and she was a fierce board game player--Scrabble and Yahtzee among her favorites.
Survivors include her husband Thomas L. Jackson, married for 64 years; siblings Gwen Sears, Joetta Wilcox; daughters Kremiere Jackson, Barbette Edwards (Cornelius) and son Thomas L. Jackson II; grandchildren Chanaye Jackson, Sakina Fatima Abdul-Halim, Brandon Edwards, Bailey Edwards, Cameron Boone, Kaley Jackson, Sienna Jackson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
