Sharon graduated in 1962 from Mackenzie High School in Detroit. Following school, she married her sweetheart Dennis and started her family. They had four children together before he became ill. Sharon cared for him and the children, while working part time jobs until he passed away in 1985. Sharon later married John Simmons.
She worked for Amerisure for a number of years and retired from Lakeshore Public Schools in 2010. Her hobbies included calligraphy, scrapbooking, and painting. She lived on Lake St. Clair for many years and loved watching the boats and freighters. She had a special interest in lighthouses and puzzles, doing them in front of her large windows overlooking the lake. Sharon also enjoyed her winter visits to Florida and the beach.
Sharon’s real love was her family and getting her kids and grandkids together for BBQs and holidays, especially Christmas when she made a huge buffet including amazing breakfast burritos. Sharon made delicious, corned beef and cabbage dinners every year to celebrate her birthday and St. Patty’s Day. Sharon organized huge family reunions for many years, as her greatest joy was watching her family all together having fun.
Sharon is survived by her children, Dennis (Paula) Surdu Jr., Keith Surdu, Kevin Surdu, and Coreen Walker; Grandchildren Kayla (Josh) Crump, Melanie Surdu, Adam Surdu, Mackenzie Surdu, Anthony (Kristen) Walker, Alex (Kelly) Walker, Nick Walker and Kaylen Walker; Great Grandchildren Lauren Walker and Cameron Walker; sister Judy Kazyak, sister-in-law Maryann Worpell and many nieces and nephews.
