Ronald James Zeckzer age 83, of Clinton Township Michigan passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, surrounded by family. Ronald was born on November 2, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to Paul and Lucile Zeckzer.
Ron was a faithful and committed husband and father to his middle school sweetheart and wife Alice of 61 years and daughters Joy and Tracy. He was a man of integrity, generosity, loyalty and patience. Ron was also a hard worker and did whatever he could to provide a good life for his family. Ron had a large group of friends and would have given the shirt of his back for anyone who needed it. He was always quick to lend a hand. Ron could have made a living as a handyman because he could pretty much fix anything that was put in front of him, and this was before YouTube!
Ron’s hard work ethic gained him trust in the tool and die industry where he worked his whole life. His first tool and die job was working for a man named Mr. Marion, who trusted him to show up in the early hours of the morning to stoke the coal furnace in preparation of the work day. When Mr. Marion closed his shop he recruited Ron to move to Lebanon, IN to work for a friend at Stanworth Tool and Die. He worked there several years and is where he and Alice started their family with the birth of their first daughter, Joy. Ron ended his employment at Stanworth and moved his family back to Michigan where he was from and began working for Mr. Kaspari at Warren Screw Products where he worked as a machinist in management most of his working life. Ron left Warren Screw Products for a short stint working as a machine repairman at Stroh’s Brewery, but Mr. Kaspari was able to woo him back and he worked both jobs for a while, working nights at Stroh’s on the weekend. A perfect example of how committed he was to providing for his family and how loyal he was to his employers. He retired from Warren Screw Products in 2002.
Ron was an avid deer hunter and loved going to his property in Gladwin every November for hunting season. He purchased his property in 1964 and never missed a year and always came home with at least one deer sometimes two. He even shot a deer the month of his 83rd birthday which became his last deer hunt. Next to deer hunting he loved to morel mushroom hunt in the spring and he had the eye for it. He could spot them a mile away! He brought his love of wildlife home where he would sit and watch the numerous birds who came around to the many bird feeders he had outside his dining room window.
In addition to his love of hunting, in Ron’s spare time, you would often find him gliding around on his zero radius lawn mower cutting the acre lot that he and Alice lived on. That was his second happy place next to his hunting blind! When Ron wasn’t on his lawn mower he was probably playing Mexican Train dominos, Golf, or Spicy Farkle. He and Alice had a standing weekly Euchre game with friends and there was always a Euchre game going when family was around. He was the luckiest guy when it came to games and would more times than not come from behind and win the game at the very last second.
Ron loved spending time with his family, especially his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was there for graduations, sports events, camping trips and to help whenever or however needed. He also loved a good word play and dad joke.
Ronald James Zeckzer was preceded in death by Paul and Lucile Zeckzer and his brother Alvin Zeckzer. He leaves behind his wife Alice, his daughter Joy (David Folkertsma) and Tracy (Michael Sheehy), grandchildren Taylor (Mark Tremblay), and Hunter Folkertsma (Taylor). He also had three great grandchildren, Iris Tremblay, and Walker and Ryker Folkertsma. He also left behind his brother Clayton Zeckzer (Dottie). All of whom he adored.
Ronald touched so many lives and was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
All are welcome to join the family for a celebration of life open house luncheon on October 17, 2026 at Celtic Cross Presbyterian Church located at 11451 East 10 Mile Rd in Warren from 11:00-3:00pm.
