

Richard T. White Jr., age 84, of Lake Orion, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026. A veteran, father, grandfather, attorney, and lifelong learner, Richard lived a life rich with service, curiosity, and humor. Raised in Detroit in a hardworking household, he learned resilience, responsibility, and compassion early on. The son of immigrants, Richard’s father was from Dunmanway, Ireland, and his mother was from Poland.
Richard attended Mackenzie High School, where he ran track and cross country, participated in Scouting, served as a camp counselor, and developed a strong sense of leadership and determination. He went on to earn a degree in economics from the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, Richard joined the ROTC and later answered a higher calling by serving in the United States Marine Corps. His military career was marked by dedication, discipline, and honor, ultimately achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His service included overseas deployments and 20 years in the Marine Corps Reserve reflecting both bravery and sacrifice. Richard remained deeply proud of his Marine Corps service throughout his life, carrying its values into everything he did.
After returning home, Richard started a family and pursued law, earning his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School. He built a distinguished and multifaceted legal career, first working for the IRS and then various insurance companies before founding his own law practice. He served as Chair of the Michigan Bar Association. An entrepreneur and small business owner, Richard was widely respected for his integrity, wisdom, and commitment to helping others navigate difficult circumstances.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard lived fully and intentionally. He treasured time with family and friends and was known for his stories and jokes. He served on his local school board, was active at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church as a board member and usher. A devoted reader with a remarkable memory, an avid traveler to Ireland and Canada, and a natural storyteller with a sharp wit, he believed strongly in showing up, helping others, and making a difference.
Richard T. White Jr. lived with purpose, served with honor, and loved deeply. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, lessons, laughter, and love that will continue to guide those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Moore; his children, Dave White (Lori), Kevin White (Karen), and Beth Worthington (John) whom he shared with his former spouse and dear friend, Judith; and his treasured grandchildren, Maggie, Aidan, Zane, Aubrey, Benjamin, and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Sophie, and loving sisters, Jean and Pat.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors is planned for July 2 at 11:00 AM at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, where Richard will be honored for his dedicated service.
