Cameron, Richard James “Rick,” age 81, passed away on October 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Albert and Gertrude Cameron, Rick was a devoted family man whose greatest joy came from being present for those he loved and supporting the activities, milestones, and moments that mattered most to his children and grandchildren. He was overjoyed to welcome his first great-grandchild this year and eagerly awaited the arrival of his second.
Rick was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Sherry (Truax), with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family and a lifetime of treasured memories. Left to cherish his memory are their children, Scott (Holly) Cameron and Michelle (Gary) Wiegand; their grandchildren, Alex (Noelle) and Evan Wiegand, and Nicole (Nickolas) Chianese, Courtney, and Blake Cameron; and his great-grandchild, Bennet Wiegand.
Rick was blessed to find love and companionship again with his devoted wife, Mary (Shoaff), with whom he shared five meaningful years of marriage. He will also be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his stepson, Derek (Dana), and their daughters, Kayla and Karissa.
Rick proudly devoted 27 years of service to the Detroit Police Department, including six years with its prestigious Mounted Division. Beyond his distinguished career, he found friendship, fellowship, and a strong sense of purpose at the Detroit Sportsman’s Congress (DSC) and Moose Lodge #1837. A devoted member of both organizations for more than 20 years, Rick generously shared his time and leadership, serving for several years as Treasurer and Governor. Through these roles, he gave back to his communities and forged friendships that would last a lifetime.
Rick will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and generosity, as well as his love of history, camping, and Miller Lite. He embraced life fully and often shared a favorite motto: “We aren’t here for a long time; we’re here for a good time.” Rick was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who lovingly remember him as their favorite uncle. Though he will be deeply missed, the example he set, the laughter he brought, and the love he shared will live on in all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Rick’s life at a memorial luncheon on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the American Polish Century Club, located at 33204 Maple Lane, Sterling.
