

Omar Lykins Harrison, age 89, passed away on June 25, 2026. Born in Vanceburg, KY, Omar spent his early years in the hills of northeastern Kentucky before building a life in Michigan, where he and his wife Claudia raised their family. Following retirement, they enjoyed many years in Florida before returning to Michigan in 2017 to be closer to family.
Omar was preceded in death by his wife of 63 yrs, Claudia, in 2024. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Christy (Jim) Kolis and Rebecca (Sean) Whelan; his grandchildren Michael (Gergana) Schomberger and Claire (Jake) Schomberger; and great grandchildren Braelynn and Parker; niece Susan Walder (Erich), nephew Ben (Katie) Harrison and grand-nephew Harrison Walder.
A lifelong educator, Omar devoted the majority of his teaching career to Northville Public Schools, where he taught seventh and eighth grade science at Meads Mill Middle School. Beyond the classroom he spent many seasons coaching football and basketball teams for Northville.
Omar was a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky and was a devoted Wildcat fan. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially relaxing with a good cigar while sharing stories and laughter with friends and family. His influence as a teacher, coach, husband, father and grandfather and friend will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
