We smile as we fondly recognize a life well lived by Michael Jons Norgard. Born on the shortest day of the year, December 21, 1939, to Jack and Rosalie (Agnelly) Norgard, Mike grew up on the westside of Detroit where he honed his athletic skills on the ice and sharpened his intellect through a catholic school education. After graduating from St. Cecilia High School in 1957, Mike joined the Navy where he served on the USS Severn AO-61 and USS Allagash AO-97. He was a proud veteran and enjoyed sharing tales about his experience at sea.
Mike’s storied career began and ended at the Detroit Golf Club. As a teen, he was a caddie. Post-retirement, he was a starter. In between the links, Mike was a Haberdasher outfitting not only the movers and shakers of Metro Detroit, but also family and friends. His ability to connect with his customers through his love for sports and the city contributed to his success in sales. In 2005, he took off his necktie, hung up his suit and retired from Jos A. Bank Clothier having won Salesman of the Year numerous times over his career.
Throughout his life, Mike served his community as a volunteer. As a member of the St. Clement Dad’s Club, he distributed meals during Lenten Fish Frys and sold Christmas trees during the holiday season. Additionally, he was a member of the De La Salle Dad’s Club where he sold tickets at various sporting events and manned the penalty box at hockey games. In recognition of his contributions, De La Salle nominated Mike for the City of Warren Volunteer of the Year Award in 2012.
On July 11, 2026, Mike peacefully passed away, having spent the day surrounded by his children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Carol Ann. He is survived by his sister Rosemary Norgard, children Kimberly Ferro, Jennifer (Gary) Ebert, and Jon (Amy) Norgard, grandchildren Nick Ferro, Ryan Ferro, Mia Ferro and Clare Norgard, nephew Mark (Maryann) Johnson, nieces Courtney Heck (Rob Cunningham) and Jill (Greg) Heist, grandnephews Steven Heck, Ethan Heist and Jack Heist, and grandnieces Sydney Heck and Sylvie Heist.
A Celebration of Life to celebrate Mike's lifetime stats will be held on October 4, 2026 from 1:30pm-4:30pm at Centerline Parks & Rec. Open Batting Practice will be from 1:30-4:30pm, with a 2:30 7th inning stretch to share your best Mike tale.
