Laura Sarah-Ann Engelmann, age 77, of Rochester Hills, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Laura (Dowding) Engelmann of Rochester Hills, Michigan was born into eternal life on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025 at the age of 77 . Laura was born on August 12, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois later moving to Homewood Illinois where she grew up .
Laura was a member of the swim team and class of 1965 graduate from Homewood-Flossmoor High School. From there she attended Southern Illinois University where she became a Registered Nurse. In addition to working at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest Illinois Laura relocated to Michigan and worked at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital until she retired. Upon retirement, Laura moved to North Fort Myers, FL. where she enjoyed beautiful weather and great friendships for many years. In the summer of 2018 Laura made a final return to Michigan to be with her family. Throughout the years she enjoyed several activities such as scuba diving, snowmobiling, skiing, deep sea fishing, and swimming.
Laura believed in living life to the fullest and held to that belief throughout her life. Her eclectic personality enabled her to find adventure whenever possible, enjoy the beauty of God's creation, and find meaning in each moment. In addition, nothing was more important to Laura than her children and family. Birthdays, holidays, and regular family celebrations were always a priority. Laura worked tirelessly during her career as a nurse in order to take her children on vacations and ensure they had everything they needed. Her unconditional love and encouragement were unsurpassed. One of her favorite hobbies was cooking for friends and family. Subsequently, this hobby inspired her oldest son to become a chef.
Laura is preceded in death by her parents Warren and Elizabeth Dowding, and brother Warren Dowding, Jr. She is survived by her sons Scott Engelmann and James (Tiffany) Engelmann, and grandchildren Katie (Brad) Krupsky, Ryan Engelmann, and Derek Engelmann. Her wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest off the coast of Key West, Florida.
The family would like to thank her friends for the compassion they showed in her final days, and for the outreach of condolences.
